Now in its 11th year, WIA provides content on the most current and critical industry topics and opportunities for exceptional networking.

開会の辞 (三井物産株式会社:代表取締役社長 堀健一)

Kenichi Hori has more than 37 years of professional and managerial experience with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. He has managed a number of Mitsui’s chemicals operations earlier in his career including its animal and nutrition operation in North America, and moved on to manage various corporate development projects of Mitsui in the areas of healthcare and other service businesses on a global scale. He has also managed Mitsui’s financial businesses in the Americas as well as its global commodity trading businesses. His headquarter role includes strategic planning and resource allocation pertaining to Mitsui’s global portfolio. He also served as the investor relations officer of Mitsui. In 2014, he became the managing officer in charge of Mitsui’s corporate planning and strategy, and had been instrumental in developing Mitsui’s overall portfolio strategies. He then managed Mitsui’s Nutrition & Agriculture Business Unit as its Chief Operating Officer. Since April 2018, he has been a member of Mitsui’s Executive Committee. He was appointed as a Representative Director in the general shareholders meeting in June 2018 and was responsible for Mitsui’s chemicals, agriculture, food, retail, and corporate development units. He also served as the chairman of the Mitsui’s Portfolio Committee through March 2021. He was appointed as President & CEO in April, 2021 and serves that role today. A native of Japan, he had been stationed in the United States for a total of 11 years based on several assignments for Mitsui.

エグゼクティブ・プロフィール (伊藤忠商事株式会社常勤監査役:茅野 ”Claire” みつる)

Claire is a member of the Audit & Supervisory Board of ITOCHU Corporation (“Itochu”), a Fortune Global 500 company headquartered in Japan. She is a bilingual and bicultural senior business executive and international lawyer, with over 30 years of experience in cross-border M&A transactions. Before her current position, she was President & CEO of ITOCHU International, overseeing Itochu’s North American business operations. Prior to that, she was General Counsel of Itochu.

In 2013, she became the first female executive officer of any major trading company in Japan. Claire has received several recognitions, including from Smith College (Smith Medal), the World Economic Forum (Young Global Leader), Yale University (Yale World Fellow), Asia Society (Asia 21) and the U.S. Japan Foundation (USJLP Fellow). She has also been recognized in the legal community as a “Top 25 In-House Counsel in Asia” (Asia Legal Business) and “FT Global General Counsel 30” (Financial Times). In 2018, the California Lawyers Association recognized her as the 8th Annual Warren M. Christopher International Lawyer of the Year. She is a graduate of Smith College and Cornell Law School (J.D.), where she serves on the advisory board.

プレゼンテーション - サステイナビリティ(三井物産株式会社 サステナビリティ経営推進部企画室長 皆川聡子)

Satoko is the general manager of Strategy & Planning Department of Corporate Sustainability Division of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Her role is to develop Mitsui’s sustainability strategies and planning, including themes such as climate change and biodiversity. With over 20 years of experience in the company, prior to her current position, she worked in business development of power generation projects globally, such as M&A transactions and greenfield development of wind, hydro and gas fired power plants. She has also lived in the United States and Spain, and is a mother of two boys.
 

5:45 p.m. – TRENDS DRIVING OPPORTUNITIES AND GROWTH IN JAPANENSE FOOD & AG WITH LUCIA VANCURA, DIRECTOR, GLOBAL MARKETS, MEROS CONSULTING
プレゼンテーション - 日本の食品・農業の成長トレンドと機会(Meros Consulting グローバルマーケット・ディレクター Lucia Vancura)

Lucia has nearly two decades of experience in Asian markets, with work based in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. She combines a background in media and publishing with experience in trade and development economics. She has worked extensively with the private sector, including investigating M&A opportunities in European, US and Asian markets for several global beverage companies; working with the Nepalese ginger industry to develop its first export strategy; and assessing investment potential in global biomass and ag tech markets. She previously worked for Promar Consulting as a senior consultant, overseeing numerous projects for US cooperators, embassies and trade associations. Lucia is an explorer by heart. Visiting the constantly changing cities in Asia is one of her passions which she combines with assisting global corporations expand their food and agribusiness in the region. She gets equally inspired when helping farmers and businesses from developing countries break into the global market or when she discovers a new spicy cuisine around the world. Lucia holds a master’s degree in international affairs and development economics from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) where she focused on rural microfinance. She is fluent in Japanese and Mandarin.
